I Got Featured in The Real Edit. Here's the Version With More Edges.
I was so honored to be featured in The Real Edit last week. It's a great piece, and if you want the polished version, the link's below. But you get the version with more edges, because this one's coming straight from me, no editor.
The feature captures the moment: the canceled meeting, the desk-packing, the decision not to panic. What it doesn't capture is my sarcasm in finding out I was getting laid off, or how "not panicking" actually became true instead of just something I said in the room.
Walking into that meeting, I said, “why do I feel like this isn't going to be a good meeting for me?” Spoiler alert - it turned out to be one of the best meetings I've ever had.
Here's what I didn't say in the interview: the six-week job search everyone points to as the "success" part of my story wasn't actually the biggest win. The real win was getting the chance to figure out who I was outside of a job title, and what I actually wanted in my next role. What strengths I wanted to lean on. That's what had me walking into interviews feeling confident instead of performing confidence, and it's a big part of why the offers followed.
That wasn't even the only win. I also stumbled onto exactly how I wanted to prioritize my time and energy during the job search itself. Once I had it, I wanted to hand it to everyone else getting the same gut-punching news.
Today, I run The Reset Framework - the business I founded and lead - because I think that identity question deserves just as much attention as the job search does. Recovery, Reflection, Redesign. In that order.
Most people try to skip straight to applying and then wonder why they don't feel authentic in interviews, or why they lose interest halfway through every job description they read. It's because they never paused to get intentional about what they actually want, and recruiters can sense that from a mile away.
